Report of the EUREF Symposium 2018

The IAG Reference Frame Sub-Commission for Europe, EUREF, symposium was held in Amsterdam 30 May – 1 June, 2018. There were a total of 120 participants and a traditional program with five sessions, including the National reports. The science sessions included the reference frames, European geodetic networks, observational techniques, and applications. During recent years, topical tutorial lectures have been organized prior the Symposium. This year the topic of the full-day Tutorial was InSAR-geodesy and geodetic infrastructure. InSAR is an emerging technique in geodesy, and the interest on it and possible applications seems to be great. This was reflected also in the presentations in the Symposium.

IAG Workshop SGCS2017: Participants urge closer collaboration between geodesists and climate scientists

The IAG sub-commission 2.6 Gravity and Mass Transport in the Earth System and the joint working groups 2.6.1 Geodetic Observations for Climate Model Evaluation and 4.3.8 GNSS Tropospheric Products for Climate held, for the first time, a joint workshop on Satellite Geodesy for Climate Studies on September 19-21, 2017 (SGCS17) at the University of Bonn, Germany. In total, 68 scientists participated in four sessions: A) What is required for validating climate models using geodetic data, B) Long and consistent geodetic time series, C) Climate modelling and observable variables, D) Prospects of future missions and constellations.

Executive Summary of the SGI 2016 Workshop

The second Satellite Geodesy and Ionosphere research workshop (SGI2016) was held at the Technical University of Berlin during 8 and 9 August 2016 as an activity of IAG Joint Working Group 4.3.3 “Combination of Observation Techniques for Multi-dimensional Ionosphere Modeling” and several research projects related to ionospheric studies. The workshop initially aimed at bringing together geodesists and other scientists from all over the world to one meeting, dealing with geodetic sciences and ionospheric research. The SGI2016 was organized by the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation Science of the Technical University of Berlin, K.N.Toosi University of Technology at Tehran, Iran and Department 1 'Geodesy and Remote Sensing' of the German Research Centre for the Geosciences (GFZ) Potsdam. The workshop provided a great opportunity for scientists to meet in a friendly atmosphere and to share their research and latest findings.

Report 3rd JISDM 2016

The 3rd Joint International Symposium on Deformation Monitoring (JISDM) was held at TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology), Austria, from 30th March to 1st April 2016 organized by the Research Group Engineering Geodesy of the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation. It follows the more than 40 years old tradition of the FIG Symposium series on Deformation Measurements and of the IAG Symposium series on Geodesy for Geotechnical and Structural Engineering expressing the tight collaboration between these two geodetic organizations. The symposium is the most important geodetic meeting worldwide dealing with the topics on geodetic monitoring and deformation analysis. During the three-day-long meeting the entire spectrum of deformation studies was covered. One aim of the symposium was to reflect contributions from different fields of geodesy and geomatics, like engineering geodesy, spatial geodesy, photogrammetry and remote sensing. Around 150 participants from 25 countries attended the successful conference.
